Right now I'm looking for an SSD about 480GB - 960GB to put in my laptop in place of the 320GB mech drive I have in the UltraBay for mass storage. Obviously, more storage would be nice, but could someone recommend to me a good SSD? I'd rather have my laptop be a purely solid state machine (aside from the fan, obviously) because I want it to be even durable. Means less points of failure, which I would really like.

I got an Intel 535 480GB yesterday for $119. Apparently it's one of the most reliable. If you want something cheaper (though not nearly as good looking at benchmarks) you can get a PNY CS1311.

I actually just bought a PNY CS1311 for another laptop. Pretty decent drive, that. Maybe I'll look into getting another.
