Right now, I have an R9 380 and game at 1080p. In the future, I'll be building my girlfriend and pc and giving her 1 of my 1080p monitors while getting a 1440p for myself.

So, I'm already looking to upgrade my gpu. But would the best option be to pick up a used current gpu or spend the few extra buckaroos for a pascal/polaris card? I'mean eagerly awaiting benchmarks, but boredom is driving me to ponder this.

I'd wait and hope Polaris will not be mid-tier. I wouldn't touch Pascal yet because it looks to have the same DX12 problems as Maxwell. They just threw more cuda cores at it without really change the architecture. If DX12 doesn't become important, then Pascal would be great, but I seriously doubt the longevity of the cards. The problem is currently AMD has nothing to compare it to, so we're kinda up shit creek, which is why I'm hoping Polaris is not mid tier and can fill the void.

DX12'so possible performance on Polaris has me iffy on the nvidia cards.

well, its a brand new node.... and the dx12 benchamrks actually looks like it outperforms the cards.... we will know fully by tomorrow.
