Thoughts on G710+

Go to solution Solved by Inimigor,

In my opinion the G710+ is the best keyboard now, I'm not a huge fan of blues and greens, especially because of silence. The 710+ is really quiet, the rubber rings helps it being even quieter than other brown keyboards and reduce key travel distance. I'm used to bottoming keys, so the rubber makes it quicker to press.

Best things of the G710+ that other keyboards may not have:

Dedicated media keys

not "Fn+F-key". And the volume control is a wheel, prefer that rather than + and - keys.
Great Macros & Software

Macro OTF recording, keypress heatmap and profiles (this is awesome for productivity!)
USB port
It's a passthrough, not a hub. Not perfect though, it's only 2.0 and It's kind of hard to reach in the back (I put a short 5cm extension to solve the issue)
Wrist rest

omg the wrist rest, that thing is awesome!
LEDs

No non-sense on LEDs. they are white, fit with every theme - I keep it off most of the time though... Don't care much for LEDs.
Construcion Quality
That thing is rock-solid! Great feet, no flex at all and it even has headphone routing in the bottom!

Things that could be a deal breaker for some:
No mic & headphone ports

Personally I wouldn't use it anyway)
Stock Keys are a bit fragile
They're not breath-too-hard-and-it-breaks fragile, but certainly not indestructible. I broke one of the "G" macro keys, fortunately it was easy to replace with a MAX Keyboard set of keys. I would recommend switching the whole set if keys, I did it, and you can carry the keys foward if you change keyboards for any other Cherry MX-based layout of keycaps. Got the semi-transparent front print keycaps. If you are not an ogre typing on keyboards, you should be fine.
The plastic frame is glossy - I admit it's a 1st world problem.
Very easy to fix, disassemble, sand, assemble.

i wanna get a new keyboard and was thinking about getting the G710+

what are your opinions about that one?

can you recommend any somewhat similar keyboards?

don't really care about led lighting but i want the 5 extra keys on the left side

also it shouldn't be too expensive,i think the price for the g710+ is quite good (89,99 € on amazon)

I have one and love it. It's well built, good looking and cheap. The backlight is great, the media keys are DEDICATED, which is a deal breaker for me, the volume wheel is great and it basically punches way above its weight.

I love my G710+ so far. I recently modded it a bit, including some new keycaps. In getting the new keycaps, I can say that I prefer the feel of the keyboard without the rubber o-ring dampers. I would recommend taking them off, but it's just personal preference. Other than that, I haven't had any actual problems with it. You can also get the regular G710 if you want blue switches.

G710 can be had for less. This time of year isn't the greatest for buying keyboards. It's a decent keyboard since they fixed the brittle keycap stems.

And the closest keyboards IMO are the K70 and the DAS Keyboard 4. The second one not having macro keys though.
