Hi all - looking to get a new PSU as mine is over 5 years old and out of warranty, plus its not modular and i'm putting my PC on a wallmount so i'd like it to be a bit prettier :)

My rig;

Mobo - Asus Z97 Pro

GPU - Asus Strix 970

CPU - i7 4790k

RAM - 2x4GB DDR3 1600mhz

Watercooled with XSPC raystorm CPU block and EK GPU block, monsta 360mm rad (80mm thick) and 6 x noctua nf-f12 fans.

I've looked at the EVGA G2 range, either the 650 or 750. Would the 650 be good for the build? Its 15mm shorter which is handy for space and £25 cheaper than the 750.

Any other suggestions? I would like it to be 80+ gold or platinum, modular, have a zero-noise fan option, and a 5+ year warranty.

Cheers,

Dan

Corsair RM650. Zero fan option. Shorter (ish)

Great looking flat black cables instead of those weird sleeved EVGA ones.

I've had several RM550s, RM650s, and RM850s for various builds for friends and I've even used them in a few workstation builds.

Excellent units.

The RMx is a much better unit for less money.

Whats the difference between RMx and RMi? On amazon the RMi is actually cheaper. I thought the "i" just meant you can connect it to USB and use the software.

It seems to be that the RMx has the worse cables. The RMi has the same cables as the standard RM

and the I adds that USB functionality.

The RMi has the better fan and the Corsair link function. You can also change between a single rail and multi rail.

I checked and the RMx has those gross sleeved cables. Standard RM has the flat black individually coated ones.

Flat black cables doesn't make it perform any better though. I personally prefer round cables as they are easier to manipulate when doing cable management.

We're talking about like $5 here. I'd rather have the flat black ones haha.

But the RM is kinda crap for what you pay for it. Anyways, the EVGA G2 sounds like what you're looking for.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Thanks everyone. I read that the G2 is slightly better in terms of performance, but come on this is a PSU... went for the Corsair as its much nicer looking and i know/trust the brand more. Got myself an RM650i and 16GB of corsair 2400mhz ram ordered (my 8GB 1600mhz set is getting VERY tired).

Thanks again!

The RMi and RMx used the same Type 4 cables. Both of which has blacked sleeved 24-pin, 4+4 pin, and 6/8pin cables, while the rest of the cables are flat black ribbon cables.

The original RM has all flat cables and based off of the older Type 3 cables (lack of v.sense wires and capacitors).
