Vive. The room scale gaming is truly what VR is about and the Vive is capable of everything the Rift is but it also has room scale tracking. Rift might get more capabilities once touch and additional cameras become available but we already know its camera approach is going to have more limited range. The Vive is just the better package overall.

I already have money set aside for the GTX 1080, but if you are going to recommend the VIVE, i would appreciate you expanding on your reasons why!?

As posted above, it's way better than Rift and this is actually how VR has to be. But keep in mind, that all those VR games are now more about having a party at home, when everyone is playing it and others are watching, having fun. I mean, not a 'single-player' oriented.

There are good reasons to prefer Valve over Facebook as guiding companies for gaming as well. Facebook with the Rift is trying to create a walled garden like the console market and when you think about its just a fancy monitor for a PC. I would be livid if games started being tied to the manufacturer of my monitor! This is not a good precedent to set considering and its majorly anti consumer. But you don't need to be concerned with any of that because the Vive is also the superior hardware and if you went out today and bought a Vive you would have it in 2 weeks time, we have absolutely no idea when the Rift would arrive, not before July certainly.
