Define S has more fan options. Define R5 has 5.25" front bays, and can fit more drives.

Define S is optimized for watercooling so it has a few features added and X'd in the name of that. I would personally grab an R5 because I need an optical drive bay and the S does not have one.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I've owned both so here are my thoughts.

Define R5

  • More HDD options
  • Better color options (Black, All Black, White, Black w/Titanium Front Panel)
  • Has a door on the front that swings open to the reveal the nicer front dust filter
  • 2 5.25" bays

The only real negative for the R5 compared to the S imo are that even if you don't need the 5.25" bays it's sort of just wasted space and most likely why the Define S exist.

Define S

  • $10 cheaper, usually even more
  • Can fit 3 120mm fans in the front. Their site says it supports 3 140mm but I was not able to fit 3 of their own Fractal 140mm fans or 3 Noctua 140mm fans in the front. The screw holes just don't go high enough.
  • Very good out of the box water cooling support.
  • Drive system on the back is really easy to work with

Some negatives to the S is that the front panel isn't nearly as nice. You sort of just pop it off the front. No built in fan controller (not that big of a deal but I do like it). And the color options are just black w/ or without window. The window on the S is larger and has no foam around it but the "sound dampening" foam is really just a marketing thing and doesn't really do much.

Overall their both fantastic cases to build in. I went with the R5 because I wanted a white case and I really like the door on it. But you really can't go wrong with either case. Basically, if you don't need ODD bays and want a black case go with the S otherwise checkout the R5.

Ive been thinking of buying one of these two cases for a long time, but i'm not sure which one to get. Could someone one please explain to me the differences between the two cases. Price doesn't matter as they're 10$ apart.

NO clue what the diffferences are but I<,ve got the r5 black and it's a damn sight to behold. It's also quite silent, event with the dozen fans running in there (yes dozen, 3 GPU, 2 CPU, 1 PSU, 6 CASE)
