OS download

So aftter building my computer iwas whas trying to download steam os from an external hard drive but in the bios it would not boot the os what did I do wrong

I'm gonna go on a whim and say Steam OS doesn't support UEFI and doesn't pass secure boot. 

 

Try disabling secure boot in your bios and allowing booting on LEGACY devices.

Did you switch to LEGACY?

So make sure secure boot is off. CSM and UEfi are enabled if you have the options and make sure you installed steam OS properly, try installing it to a USB first?

so I cant find the UEfi were do you think it would be located in the bios

I Just changed UEFI to Legacy only but still whenever I boot it it just goes to the bios

where did you download steam os from and what did you use to copy it to your usb stick?

 

and what is your motherboard?

I downloaded it from the steam website and I just dragged it on to the external HHD do I have to use a USB stick and my motherboard is a Z170-A

yes. what you downloaded is the installer. 

 

Please follow the instructions as mentioned.

and I highly doubt you can install it to an External HDD. 

 

please note that IT WILL FORMAT YOUR INTERNAL HDD, if there is one

ok I was trying to download it on to a Kingston SSD so I guess  that makes sence

You need to copy the data to a Formatted Fat32 Usb stick then boot on that.

oh ok yea I will go out and get one today should it be a 32gb or 64gb
