what GPU do you have, wait this is a laptop isn't there a setting to make it use the GPU chip over the intgrated maybe you are using integrated right now

oh, in device manager, its saying i can enable the integrated. but obviously i am so idk

hmmm... i think it says its working. though the control panel says im not connected to one. thats why im confused

well only one should work at a time, so if you have intgrated on then the 840 should be disabled, and if the 840 is on the intgrated should be disabled

yea integrated is disabled in device manager. but its on...? the 840m is enabled in the device manager. but, its not on. ;3;

humm it says your display is not connected to it, are you using the built in screen or do you have a moniter plugged in, even tho that shouldn't matter

You shouldn't switch it to "disabled" you have an Optimus enabled laptop, the display connected to the IGP while the IGP does Pass-though of the display buffer from the 840M, if you have problems with optimus check your bios to select the dGPU instead of optimus.

actually yes. my monitor is plugged in with VGA, but it says check cable. i switched the sides and the cable but it still says that. (and yes, it is on)

not really sure what much of that meant. im new to computers im only 14 here.

yeah i was thinking youll probably need to look in your bios and select dGPU as david said

got it fixed, just enabled the integrated graphics

If its an intel based machine,  then the way it is connected is nvidia GPU - Intel IGP - Display, that way the Discrete card can be off and you can use your computer on the intel IGP, when its needed the nVidia driver would turn on the dGPU while using the IGP as a "connection" to the display. so in order for this to work your shouldn't disable anything in the control panel. 

 

you can enter the bios of the machine and look for gpu mode selection, many laptops with nVidia dGPU and intel GPU would let your chose between integrated only and optimus setup.
