S3 vs. Nexus 4

Go to solution Solved by Jay123,

I think I'll get the 16GB Nexus, might as well pay the extra £50 pound now rather than having to buy a whole new phone later. I had a 8GB IPhone 3GS and that wasn't really enough. Thanks guys!

Well, the nexus 4 should be much cheaper then the s3 right?

Because of the age of each phone, Nexus 4 would be better. S3 might not get updates much longer if it does. Nexus will.

Depends on your use, they are both pretty close. S3 has the advantage of expandable storage, Nexus has stock android. Though with custom ROMs, S3 can be very close to stock. ( I'm using Slim Bean at the mo)

I went S3 for the extra space, needed about 26GB for music alone, so an SD card was a must.

oh man where can i start.

first of all by almost all the standers of the modern mobile world these are old phones. nexus is the generic Google Brand (the iphone of the android world, not quite but in some ways)

the S3 is built by samsung with many modification to the android OS, a very heavy skin and lots and lots of proprietary stuff. has a very bad buit quality and feel when comparing to may other phones out there (in my mind)

on the other hand the Nexus 4 OEM by LG which is based on their LG Optimus G. now this phone is what google consider the base line for android. it follows many things that google have being trying to push in to the mobile word in the past years.

1. the onscreen buttons (so that it can be changed on the fly depending on what is being done)

2. the on-board flash memory with out expandability using a SD card( this helps to keep higher standers in terms of reads and writes)

and the nexus phones will get all the new updated directly from Google with out any delay from the manufactures.

so it all boiles down to what you want your android experience to be?

do you want the novelty that the Galaxy S3 gives you that will eventually fade away?

or the consistent Original unadulterated android experience that will be there after a year or two?

think carefully, if you the person that like to tinker with your phone and flash different roms and run root apps? then there is no question that you have to get the nexus device. this supports bootloader unlock and rooting out of the box.

OK guys you made up my mind within 5 mins of posting :) Nexus it is. But should I bother with the 16GB or just get the 8GB?

Could wait a month and see if they got a new Nexus up by then.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

i dont think it matter how much memory you have because almost every everything will be streamed. all i store on my phone is MP3 and Photos that from the phone.

but then again i'm not confined to 8 or 16gb (not using a nexus)

but my GF has a nexus 4 and the 8gb is more than enough. lots of songs and photos and anything else is streamed.
