Hello all,

So ive been searching on the forums and found one thread that states ram is ram, and that you will not really notice and sort of performance increase from one to the other. Currently using the corsair dominator platinums but would love some ballistix tracers.

I want to make sure the above statements hold true about performance of ram from one to the other. Can anyone vouch for this?

Thanks

Blake

I suppose if you are big into rendering and other intensive programs then RAM isn't just RAM but there is a point were you start spending a lot more money for not alot more performance. For gaming once you get to 1600Mhz RAM is pretty much RAM as the performance boost with higher speed RAM is within a small amount of percent. This being said i like the look of Dominators more:)

Case: Corsair 460X RGB bby, CPU: I5 8600K, Motherboard: MSI B360M PRO-VDH, RAM: 8GB Hyper X 2400MHz , Graphics Card: GTX1060 6GB, PSU: Corsair RM750x,

Cooler: BEQuiet!  Pure Rock Slim SSD: Kingston 240GB, HDD: 2TB Seagate Barracuda

While RAM is RAM I think Dominator Platinum's are in a class of their own and are far from your standard RAM.

For looks sure.

For performance, ram with the same specs will perform identically. Brand makes no difference.

I used to have ballistix tracers for my old 775 platform, I loved the leds for diagnostic use and just having a visual feedback if something happened to the system like freezing. HOWEVER, I would run my PC 24/7 and would have it on while sleeping so those LEDs became so annoying when trying to get to sleep. They look great and serve a purpose but aren't for everyone.

unless you are using an apu then memory speeds are quite pointless and a waste of money as you only see a difference in benchmarks. The reality is that you should just get what has the best appearance, 1866 is the highest i would go.

Make sure that if you have AMD, and you end up having to change the RAM speeds or timings to match spec, that it is considered an overclock, and will affect your OC headroom of your CPU. If you have an intel though, it shouldnt be a problem. I have the Tracers and its pretty sick, especially with the MOD utility.

RAM is RAM to a point. Changing Dominator Platinum to Ballistix Tracer is a come down.

But I really do love the looks of the Tracer RAM.

How is this considered a come down? I know the Corsair's are able to be overclocked. However overclocking it above 1866 causes my system to fail during boot so...

Thanks

It's just that, the Platinum's are considered the Rolls-Royce of RAM.  :)
