My current build that I am putting together is as follows.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4WCbsY

I have most of the parts in already and have started on some of the basic building, started tearing down the tower and figuring out cable routing, just waiting for a few more things to come in before I finalize the build.

My main question is this. I have really good renters insurance through USAA, but I live in an apartment complex and they have been known in my area to have dirty power and I am afraid that my computer may be in danger of an overload. I am taking the most basic precaution of using a surge protector, Wiremold Desk Mounted, as shown in one of the Handy Tech Under $100 vids that Linus did a while back. I am wondering if I should just spend the initial $140 bucks to buy a UPS that I have found on Newegg with some great reviews:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842102048&cm_re=CyberPower_CP1500AVRLCD-_-42-102-048-_-Product

Or if I should be fine with the set up that I already have in place, or if anyone has a comparable UPS Unit in price or performance that they would recommend, preferably cheaper.

Avoid the V300 as an SSD, it has its NAND swapped and is now slow:

Also why not wait till 27th of may when the 1080 comes out? (Or you could get the MSI 980Ti now that it is selling for 530 dollars after the announcement).

Go with the Samsung 850 Evo instead of the V300 SSD.

And do you really need an M.2 SSD?

I'd recommend waiting for the GTX 1080.

I have that UPS, I can confirm it works as you'd expect. No complaints.

I have unfortunately literally bought everything already and almost exactly 24 hours before the announcement of the 1080, I did not on the other hand know about the V300 and may look into getting those swapped out with the return policy although I have bought one as a configurator deal with the processor and wound up saving a good amount of money and there fore can only swap for the same product. I don't do a lot of video editing in the mean time and this is mainly a gaming rig with the 4TB HHD being there as more of a place to store my data and shows, I do plan on running the SSD's in Raid 0 so hopefully that will alleviate some of the pain.

Is the software suite compatible with windows 10 cause it isn't listed on the manufacture webpage, only goes up to win 8

Just return the GPU, you just bought it so the return policy should let you. Then just hang on another couple of weeks with just the integrated GPU.

That Samsung 850 Evo?

The M.2 isn't really a need more of a want, but in retrospect I can see how it isn't necessary and will probably cancel the order since it hasn't been shipped yet.

That does sound like a good idea, and the 1080 is officially launching on the 27th guaranteed? If that is the case then I can just sit on my current GPU until then, I will still be within the window to be able to return.

Anyone have a link with sizes of the 1080 got to make sure it fits in my case, also, anyone know the announced price?

Size on the 1080, nope, but I would assume probably close to the same size as most other reference nvidia cards. the price was $600 for the plain reference card, and $700 on the founders edition card, (not totally sure what the difference is other than a bit of extra angles on the cooler).

Okay, I will double check the Nvidia website maybe I missed something, and I think the GTX1080 video released by Luke has something at the end of it where they are discussing it at the "round table" and they where speculating that the teaser specs where the founder, but that isn't verified.

Edit::

Found the specs I was looking for.

It's what is known as a "paper launch" so there is the possibility that it could be delayed. However do you really want to risk it by getting an inferior GPU now?

As of right now I have half a computer sitting on a static proof mat on my dinning room table, still missing half the RAM, CPU, MOBO, and an SSD that I already goofed on and didn't research enough. With the price being close to what I paid for the 980TI I can stand to atleast get the system put together. I will be upgrading and even if I have to wait for a few extra weeks while the return process and subsequent launch happens, I can always slap my old 780 in for a place holder for the time being.

I've heard the founder's edition has more metal in the cooler and the chips are binned higher for more overclocking potential

Thank you for all the info, really helped me out here... Unfortunately I checked last night and I can not return my 980 to newegg. So it looks like I will be using that card until I can convince my wife it is time for me to upgrade.

Tell her that a random person on the internet said it's time for an upgrade
