I say, save your money and don't buy either. Get one of the New 3DS's. Why? Since they've got upgraded specs, it makes them more future proof to upcoming titles and also their homebrew scene is brighter, suppose you wanna go down that road someday.

Eg. You wanna play Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D (suppose), N3DS homebrew allows you to increase the clock speed of the dual core cpu hence ending up in smooth gameplay which would otherwise ending up stuttering in other 3ds systems.

Just an example.

as far as I see the 3ds is useless upgrade. unless u want the extra screen

as far as I know they both have same ARM11 chip with 128MB FCRAM and a same cpu chip PICA200.
what is left is to see if nintendo will do limitation like some games wont run on 2ds and only on 3ds's (by checking firmware) , because hardware wise I beleive they both are same cpu, gpu, memory. and I can't remember nintendo doing that in the past , it was always the hardware bottleneck which made them decide certain games not to be released on a certain device.

but the **New** nintendo 3ds and 3dsXL are different which will make us suffer :/ hopefully not soon , when a game can run on them and won't run on the older 3ds/XL+2ds.
coz they got quadcore and more ram 256MB :/ hopefully the gpu chip not clocked higher and its the same clock speed so we don't see game releases that run on **new**3ds and not older ones , but am pretty sure that day is coming.
