So i've had alot of problems with skype lately, on startup it crashes immediately. Someone told me it was caused by mshtml.dll, the main rendering engine for internet explorer.

He said me to reset internet explorer so the corrupted file would also be reset. But i also can't open internet explorer, it freezes after 5 seconds.

Any help?

The first thing that I would do is uninstall both programs using Revo Uninstaller (the advanced method so that you clear all registry entries for both programs) and then reinstall the latest versions.

If it's the DLL's fault you can download it separetely from DLL-files.com.

I am not quite sure you can unninstall IE (depending on the version is installed irght now)

If the DLL replacement doesn't fix it try the following steps:

1- Uninstall Skype using revounninstaller (as @DevilishBooster said. It removes all related registry entries and possible orphan files it may leave behind)
2- Go to "Programs and Resources" > "Add or Remove Windows Features" and disable any version of Internet Explorer/Edge
3- Reboot
4- Install the latest version of IE, you can download the installer from Microsoft website.
5- Reboot (just to be sure everything is properly installed)
6- Reinstall Skype.

Let me know if that works out for you!

Can you check Windows Event Log? You can go on "My Computer" right click it and go to "Manage" there will be a menu with it. Check to see any skype/IE errors and any info.
