Hey all, I'm looking to get into pc gaming but also want to use it for schoolwork (Adobe CC, Architectural CAD, Construction BIM).  Would this be a proficient machine? My budget is pretty firm, $800-900, so I can't really upgrade to a better GPU, CPU, etc. Thanks for any feedback.

1) maybe try getting a 240gb ssd, normally thats a better value

2) if you dont need nvidia's features i highly suggest the r9 390

3) should get a higher wattage psu: ~550W if you go with gtx 970, ~650W if you go with r9 390

other than that, looks neat

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Get a ATX motherboard. Not a microATX.

That will exceed past his budget.

Looks solid overall. Are you planning on sticking with the standard CPU cooler? Would probably advise getting a CPU cooler. Plus, try getting a higher wattage PSU.

and he gets double the ssd amount and a higher wattage psu

yeah i had researched the 390 beforehand and a higher wattage psu for it would only drive the price up

for 5 bucks more you can get the 620W version of the S12 and it will power your rig just fine

if you're in a tight budget like so, i suggest dropping the SSD first

not trying to overclock anything

Okay, then the stock heatsink should be just fine^^

One more question, how important is that case to you ? Would you be willing to buy a cheaper case to free some of your budget to be able to afford a larger PSU or SSD?

(like Xanderbobs mentioned)

sounds reasonable. i also meant that getting the 390 AND the psu to go along with it would drive the price up.
