I have been using the MSI Geforce GTS 450 for 2 years now, just simple games Counter-strike:Global Offensive, Battlefield 4 and some World of Warcraft.

The idle temps used to be like 30-35 , now its 45-50 Celsius However when under load it's still in 77-83 range like used to be!

To get atleast something more from this GPU i've overclocked it from

VOLTAGE 1012

CORE CLOCK 783

SHADER CLOCK 1566

MEMORY CLOCK 1804

To

VOLTAGE 1087

CORE CLOCK 1000

SHADER CLOCK 2000

MEMORY CLOCK 2100

Note as i said the temps used to be better with the same overclock!

I did clean the PC today with compressed air and put on some new thermal grease on the GPU.

The compound is

Cooler Master: IC Essential E1.

And yes i did even check it after tightening the screws and unscrewing them just to check if the grease has applied NORMALY and it did!

Capture.PNGI even keep the case sidepanel open just so the components can breath some more!

Does your fan turn off when your card isn't under load? It might have been implemented in a driver update and as a result runs a bit hotter at idle.

That's what my 970 does (well, it's always run a bit warm at idle, but that's because the fans turn off)

Nope, as you can see in the picture, the fan is running at 52%!

I don't really trust that slider, find the graph that shows gpu fan speed

it's not overheating when under load and a little rise in idle temps aren't likely to do it any harm, but long term overclocking to what appears to be extreme amounts can cause extra wear and tear, and might have a part to play in that. Unless you mean it was 30-35 before cleaning and 45-50 after, in which case I'd suspect ambient temps and the gpu fan curve really liking 77-83 under load
