just try another one for now

that'd be my guess: its worth a try, even if you have to run out and get a chinese brick, every phone store has a 2A brick for like €10 at most.

What's the amperage of the power supply? It'll either be measured in mA (milliampere) or A (ampere), and this measures how much current is available to the device.

that'd surprise me since mine even when overvolted and crunching trough a torture benchmark doesnt go past 500mA.

that said, an indication for a bad power supply is the red LED on the pi: if thats off, your power supply is dropping out of "USB voltage" spec, causing the pi to possibly go unstabile.

so i just need another phone charger?

does the red LED light up constantly when the pi is running? (and stay lit trough the lockup?)

EDIT: i had a crappy power brick make my pi go iffy tho, try running it off of your computer's usb ports, and see how that goes.

It'll probably work just fine at 500mA, but more devices means you need more power, and some models require more power than others. My Raspberry Pi B (Rev. 2.0) won't even power on with 500mA if it has a keyboard and mouse plugged in.

It depends on how much power your current phone charger supplies, and how reliable it is. Power is voltage multiplied by amperage.
