The 780 ti slightly outpreforms the 970 but not enough that I'd replace a 970. Just keep the 970 and get a newer card or a 980ti when the price drops later this year.

So I found this 780 ti at 250 pounds and I'm wondering if I should sell my 970 and go for it. I mean, I've seen the 780 ti outperform the 970 in most games...

Keep the 970. The 780Ti uses more power and has less video memory (only 3GB opposed to the 3.5GB in the 970) and if you plan on playing at high resolutions the 780Ti won't have a lot of balls in a demanding title. Also, new GPUs are right around the corner, so the price of something like a 980Ti will drop significantly once the new ones come out.

and: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-nvidia-geforce-gtx-970-review

Personaly I'd say:

used 780? If so, hell no.

New one? Maybe, if you need some money.

Else I'd stick with the 970, games will just need more and more Vram and as you can see in the video & article I linked, the two cards are approximately equally good.

Ofc it depends what 970 you exactly have, if its a cheap one, the 780 ti is maybe slighly better but a expensive 970 properly OC'd will most certainly outperform it, even if it doenst do it now. Ss said, newer games = more Vram, just look at shadow of mordor with HD textures for example, that allready eats up all the Vram on a 970.

Also the 970's generaly will run cooler & quieter.

Not worth it.

Your 970 is more than enough for 1080p gaming.

Even at 1440p you are just fine with it.

As someone else said before, wait few months for polaris/pascal so people will start selling 980 (ti) and other cards.
