Which cpu should I choose?

Hi I am building my first pc. I have a budget on the cpu at around 200-250$. I really want to get a good cpu for the price but i am unsure (because its my first pc). I want to have agigabyte r9 390 inside the pc and i have chosen the other parts but I need to have a good cpu for its price. I heard about the skylake series but its very expensive. Its in my budget but I want a very good cpu (i found a intel core i7 6700k but is it that powerfull?). 

 

Thank you if you can find a cpu for me. the cpu will be used to play video games and do recording and editing.

I would say if you are going for the i7 6700K then you are going to be getting a powerful CPU. I use the older i7 4790K and I get good performance while doing everything you listed. So you should be fine w/ the 6700k!

i5 6600K, or the even cheaper i5 6500 with a H170/B150/H110 motherboard.

Intel is the way you want to go for that budget, if you're just gaming an i5 6600k will perform amazingly and they are generally amazing overclocking chips to get even better performance out of them, but a 6700k is better as it has hyper threading though they do run anywhere from $100-$150 extra.

as @Castdeath97 said, i5 6600k is really good choice. Get a decent motherboard with Z170 chipset and you will OC your CPU and get best performance out of it !

Cheaper than the i5 6500 as well (I thought your budget was 200-250 dollars)?

I see you got a few options you could go i5-6600K and a Z170 board and OC it to the moon? Or buy a locked i7 with B150 board?

 

But yes the i7-6700K is very good but it costs a bit...

Don't buy Gigabyte 390s - they have BIOS issues - go for a Sapphire/MSI/XFX or PowerColor 390 instead - MUCH better cooling and accoustics

As a rule of thumb - Asus and Gigabyte are generally to be avoided for GPUs at the moment
