I'm looking for suggestions for a highly portable laptop. I would prefer for it to have at least 8gb and a dual core i7, in a 1000-1700 budget range.

the asus x555la-rhi7n10 is a good laptop, has only 6gb of ram, but a i7 5500u you could upgrade the ram and get an ssd with what you save

or get the razer blade stealth

Razer Blade Stealth, or XPS13.

Is the razer blade really as good as everyone says it is. I've had previous razer products (not laptops) and they didn't seem to be that well built.

Razer laptops are really well made, like MacBook level quality. Its about as good as windows ultrabooks can get IMO.

Laptop: Asus GA502DU

RAM: 16GB DDR4 | CPU: Ryzen 3750H | GPU: GTX 1660ti

Depending on what you are willing to spend, you might want to have a look at the T460s, T450s and X250/X260.

Looked at them, they seem pretty good. As of now my laptop has been the Lenovo Thinkpad T420, and I've really enjoyed using it.

What other requirements do you have for a laptop? And what would you be doing with this new laptop? The more details you give, the better we can match a laptop to your needs.

It's not nearly as good as fanboys say it is. Stay away from it

ThinkPads are the highest end work-grade laptop available. Nothing has better build simply due to them being the only ones using a magnesium alloy for extra chassis rigidity

Light gaming, quite a bit of video (not 4k or raw), unity/unreal development, and LOTS of word processing. Also I forgot to mention, I would like a dedicated video card, or at least a USB-C port so I can hook one up.

You can hook a eGPU up to most thinkspad, because they have a PCI slot under them.

Really, never knew that, Is this on their older laptops ie the t420?

Yep look under it, the dockting port is a PCI slot. The t420 will bottle neck most GPUs
