A separate microphone will be more versatile in how you want to use it. Where as the headset microphone will basically always be attached to the headset.

And a dedicated microphone will generally perform better than a built-in microphone in a headset.

Do you think it would be beneficial for situations where you have to be in voice chats?

Headsets are nice, because you will pretty much always have the microphone there. Stand-alone microphone might be tucked away somewhere on your desk if you don't have a more dedicated setup for it.

A normal headset clearly wins when it comes to keeping it all in one place and everything.

Headphones + microphone normally grants you a higher overall sound quality, but for most people then the headset is enough. And it's fewer cables to fiddle with and everything.

True, although I better cable management would be a possible way to minimize the clutter so luckily that isn't much of a problem. Also, from my perspective, it seems that the improvement really shows when you attach it to an audio interface or sound card right?
