Then I don't have any ideas left. You can try clearing your icon and thumbnail cache as well as checking your shortcut arrow overlays.

Good luck

So I realise that this is probably a stupid thing to be doing. Basically I'm trying to make an invisible folder on my desktop, nothing too crazy. I used a transparent icon that I made by creating a completely transparent .png image and using http://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-ico to convert it into a .ico file. Then I changed the folder icon to be this transparent .ico file. This works for awhile but after restarting my computer it becomes black. I thought this was just something that happened and I'd have to deal with it but then I realised that I have a different icon thats partially transparent and the transparent part of that does not go black after a restart. I used the same website and the same file formats, so I don't know why that one works but a completely transparent one doesn't. If someone knows how this works that would be very helpful. Thank you!

PS: Using Windows 10

New tactic:
Close your eyes! If you can't see anything, nothing can be there!

I think you might be taking the wrong approach.

Sig under construction.

Are you not simply able to set the icon to nothingness, from the 'Change Icon For' dialog under Customize in Properties for the folder?

Is there no such dialog?

This is the customize menu. I tried doing "Change Icon" and then choosing a completely transparent icon. This worked until after I restarted, then it just turned black.

Have you tried changing to one of the windows default invisible icons instead of the one you created?

After giving the folder an invisible icon, try going into folder options and checking "show hidden folders" and then go to the properties of your invisible folder and set it to hidden.
