$1300 laptop/ultrabook

Go to solution Solved by zwunder,

I just decided to go with the 1080p I5 XPS15 Thanks for the advice all.

Okay, as the title says, I need a $1300 laptop/ultrabook. That is my absolute maximum price. I have been looking pretty heavily at the Razer Blade Stealth QHD, with 256gb of storage. That prices out to $1120 after my razer student discount.

"Must Haves"

  • Metal construction
  • 256gb of storage
  • At least 2 hours of battery life under modest load
  • Good color
  • at least 1080p, preferably higher
  • minimum 12"
  • not a tablet/convertible (I don't trust the durability)
  • Windows

I will be using this as a school computer, not gaming, and it would be a plus if I can run photoshop on it. This is going to replace my old and dying Sager NP7370, which is just too large and too heavy for use as a school computer.

My Build:

i7 5820k ~ Sabertooth X99 ~ 32GB Crucial Sport ~ Nvidia Titan X ~ Enthoo Luxe ~ 512GB 850 Pro ~ Asus PB287Q

Get the xps 15, its hardware looks amazing, it has a very reasonable footprint and the specs and size are amazing given the 1.8kg weight!

Also, it is more plain and simple, and thus I believe more versatile than the razer.

At this point it looks like it's between the XPS15 with an I5, and the Razer blade stealth. I am torn, because I like the SSD in the razer more than the storage in the XPS, but I like the larger screen and quad core in the XPS. I also don't like all of the bloatware that dell ships.

Does anyone have hands on experience with either or preferably both of the laptops that can weigh in?

Why not a x260? I don't think the shell is metal, but the roll cage and all that is.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M
