Hey guys so like the title say, I'm planning on buying a used R210 off of ebay to convert to a NAS, I just have a question if anyone could help me answer.

I read it only has 2 Hard drives bays but more than that, i read that it only supports up to 2TB max internal storage. Can anybody verify this? because I wanted at least like 8TB storage on my NAS, so I might have to think about another type of server. Thanks in advance for the comments!

You can get above the 2tb maximum on the R210 but if you're looking to get a server for a NAS I would spend a little more and get an R310 or if you want even more space an R510.

Price difference between R210 and R510 is like $250:/

Which is why I said the R210 will work with bigger drives but recommended the R310.

Oh sorry, I was thinking about the r310, I can get it for only like $40 more than the R210, althought it has a Xeon X3430 instead of a X3450 like the R210 I don't think that would make much of a difference with FreeNAS and I get up to 4 drives, now my question is....

I have used the r210 for 4tb drives. The only thing about the r210 is that it only has 2 drive bays.

If Kyle used 2x4TB on the R210, quadrupling the capacity, would I be able to get 4x8TB on the R310 thus quadrupling it's capacity also? Since it also allows up to 32GB RAM I would be good still. What do you guys think?

Higher capacity drives should be fine with the R310 as well, so in my opinion that would be the best option.

Yeah, room to expand is something I really need, up until now I used a WD my Cloud for all my files, but I recently got married so now I got multiple data and systems trying to use it, so as the family grows I want to be able to grow it. Thank you for all your help everyone!!
