Hey guys,

as my iPhone 4 is getting slower and slower I have to think of getting a new phone. Everything I need to do with it is basically Spotify, YouTube and maybe some social media things.

My needs are simple: Fast cpu, good display (but no overkill...), a decent battery (also nothing crazily good) and a good soundchip (or aren't there no noticeable differences these days?). I need nothing fancy like a 100MP camera or 4k, for me that's a waste of money. A nice-to-have thing would be a fast way to charge it as I'm charging it on the fly pretty often (but with a good battery that is obviously not needed).

OS: I've always been a fan of a jailbroken iOS (sorry, don't blame me for it :D), but as apple is really expensive I'm ready for something new :) the OS should just look OK and give you some ways make it perfect for you.

It may be important to mention that I'm ready to buy a used phone and I don't really want to upgrade next year but rather in 3 or 4 years.

If you have any recommendations, just let me know :)

Already thanks to all of you!

I'm liking the Nexus 5x. I got it with Project Fi, both of which seem really cool. It's $250 for the 32gb model if you get it through Project Fi, and $350 for off of project fi. Pretty damn good for the price, even if you buy it without Project Fi.

I have the Oneplus X and have been satisfied with it. The screen is 1080p OLED and looks very nice. There is zero bloatware, and the Oxygen OS is pretty much stock Android.

Edit: I get about a day out of the battery with heavy usage, and can get two days if I don't use it much.

The Nexus 5X or even the Nexus 5...it runs like new to this day. A lot of updates ensured it didnt start lagging like touchwiz.

Nokia 925

Wireless Charging

Decent Screen

Great Camera

Windows Phone 10 (cant go wrong with that)

Great Customer Support

Not Built by Child Slaves in China (Cough.cough Apple)

Ok, maybe not the most appropriate and useful review, but it is a great and indestructible phone. Ive had it 4 years, only 2 scratches on the side. Dropped it while at a pool a few times, nothing wrong. Seriously, its got a great build quality, great components, and worth a good look at. Theres the newer model, the 950 and 950XL, those are better, but much more expensive.

Galaxy Grand Prime? Your absolutely nuts? Thats a horrific smartphone. Only people without any technical knowledge would literally waste money on Samsung low end phones, because theyr "crappy" hardware cant handle the bloated and 2nd hand touchwiz, so to say. Other manufacturers like Xiaomi, can make a 120$ phone with 3 gigabytes of Ram and a Mediatek Octa-Core processor, 13 megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front shooter. The display should also be decent and overhaul much better than what such a slow phone like that would be Xd. Nexus 5X is the best recommendation, anytime.

Nokia Lumia 925 isn't officially supported for Windows 10 Mobile, and the preview build was incredibly unstable when I tried using it last month. Also, Lumia 925 doesn't have wireless charging stock, it requires extra cover for that feature. I would not recommend anyone buy Windows Phone nowadays as the app ecosystem is awful and is getting worse all the time.

P.S. I own Lumia 925

Get an LG G4.

Yes, I know it is last years model, but:

  • It will be cheap because of this.
  • It has a 1440p screen that looks amazing (even with a screen protector on it)
  • The battery will easily last me all day (I screw around on my phone A LOT at work)
  • The sound is phenomenal for a 'tiny' smartphone. Matter of fact, the amp in there is so strong I can't use the top 2 volume settings on most speakers/ earbuds.
  • It is very fast.
  • It comes with minimal bloat. I factory reset my phone, and had the majority of the bloat off within 3-4 min.
  • LG has amazing support, and always has the newest software updates within a few weeks.
  • I believe that wireless charging comes default. I don't know. I have never used it.
  • The buttons on the back are ambidextrous and will prevent you from hitting them while in your pocket.
  • The microSD slot has no size limit. Meaning that if years from now they make 1TB microSDs, the phone will read them fine.
  • And it has one of the best cameras on the market right now.

Also removable battery, in case you care.

I own one of these phones, and the only thing I would recommend is getting a case for it. The default back panel is very slick. My super soft hands (don't judge me) happen to drop it a lot because of this. There are plenty of solutions though. LG sells aftermarket back panels in all sorts of colors and textures (even bamboo) or just simply spend the $15 on the case you will be needing anyway.

Cheers, and good luck on your quest for a phone.
