I wanted to ask if this is a good system for gaming and editing. It is pre-built and I know people are going to hate that fact but I do not have the means to build it myself. But anyway here are the specs and the Model number of the PC.

-HP Envy Phoenix 800-070st

-Intel Core i7 4770

-Nvidia GTX 660 1.5GB

-2TB 7,200rpm

-16GB 1600Mhz RAM

This for sure beats my crappy 4 year old laptop, but I just want to know what types of games I will be able to play with this graphics card and CPU combination.

Thanks for reading!

It's okay, will run most games fairly well.

Why can't you build it yourself though? I'm sure you will save at least $200.

For just gaming, not really. You could get so much better performance if you built your own. For example.mYou only need 8 GB of RAM, and an i5 4670 for gaming. The important part is the graphics card. You'd want at LEAST a 660ti.

For editing, It's pretty good, but you should really upgrade the GPU.

And yes, it does beat a 4 year old crappy laptop :)

honestly id go for an i5 processor and a better gpu and add an ssd. the i7 wont help with gaming and the 660 ti is gonna be a little underpowered in a year or two (i have one its a good card but wish id got a 670 or 680)

edit: also unless that is a k series processor you wont be able to overclock it which is kinda pointless in my opinion, better with a lower (i5) processor that you can overclock

TERRIBLY unbalanced for a gaming machine, as pretty much expected from a prebuilt machine. All they worry about is getting the important spec numbers that uneducated PC buyers look for, IE: i7 CPU, 16gb RAM and lots of storage. Non of which will actually give you a better gaming experience. How much does this system cost?

Build it yourself. Get an unlocked i5 and a mid range mobo. Overclock the snot out of it. That 660 is fine but if you have more money i'd go at least 660ti and overclock the snot out of that. Other stuff doesn't really matter too much for gaming so there is a good base to start. But whatever you do DO NOT cheap out on your psu and don't get that pre built machine.

16 gigs of RAM is overkill... don't need more than 8 for gaming these days. But if you are doing video editing I guess its alright...

It will run the latest games if that's what you're asking, you'll be able to play them all in normal settings. Older games in higher def.

What do you mean you don't have the means to build it yourself? Because buying it like this just cost you extra and be aware that you are paying for an overall mediocre system... well, actually it depends on how much it costs.

If I had no choice than to buy it prebuilt at least I would request to choose the parts for myself:

- Get an i5 instead of an i7

- Get at least a 660TI  GPU (or a 7950 Radeon which would be preferable)

- Get a decent PSU (80 plus bronze 600w if you are not planning to add any more components)

- Get a decent Motherboard

I made a Google Search for the model you listed HP Envy Phoenix 800-070st. It looks sketchy at best, and for 1500 dollars, you can get a MUCH better machine by putting it together yourself.

In other words, I wouldn't recommend buying it

Why don't you have the means to do it yourself?

I don't know why everyone who is asking about a pre-built/custom built has to explain why they aren't building one themselves.  That CPU is is the best you can get (for less than like $1000).  That GPU is the lowest I would even call a gaming GPU.

Its an older video (and the cards are non-reference), but performance can be seen here.

If you can find a pre-built that you like WITHOUT A GPU (but with at least a 500+ Watt PSU. YOu could use the rest of the budget to pay for a GPU that is better than an GTX 660 (760+ or 7950+).  If you can't do that for whatever reason (I would take about 10 minutes to instal and upload the drivers) then the computer you are looking at is a great editing option, but a weak gaming system (still about the recommended for many modern games though)

EDIT: If you look at a GPU-less Pre-built and then buying a GPU, look at the 7870, it would give similar performance, but is very cheap right now.

No SSD.

Low End GPU with really low Vram.

Non-K cpu

-> Sucks ^^'

Why can't you build one yourself? Either cheaper or much better for the same price ^^

Get another one elsewhere... As Above ^ Stated... Gaming Performance per dollar is craptastic.

Especially when your looking at spending $1500 on a piece of poo

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Probably the best answer I would have seen here, editing is the main purpose, and I decided to get a PC with a GTX card for CUDA in Adobe programs. I just posted here in the Gaming Section to see how the card would do. Gaming is really a side hobby for me and as long as I can play BF3, Skyrim and Crysis 2 at decent frame rates I'm happy.
