Help picking new laptop

So I'm looking to buy a new laptop. I'm between the Lenovo Flex 3-1470 Signature Edition and the Dell Inspiron 17559. I was at the Microsoft store the other day so I had a chance to look at them in person. I like the Lenivo because it weighs 2 pounds less the dell. Other than that it comes down to specs. The Lenovo has (in store I believe) a i7-6500u (even though the Microsoft store says otherwise (I7-55xxu)), and a GTX 940M. The Dell has a i5-6300HQ with a GTX 960M. The Dell laptop is also about $75-$150 more (not 100% sure on the price of that.). I Know I can get the Lenovo for about $650. What should I get? )

I need it for school (hence the Lenovo is lighter weight), and and also for gaming. I have my desktop so I can justify not needing a GTX 960M (I also don't want a laptop that is better than my desktop). I believe the Lenovo will handle whatever games I play just fine as long as it has a GTX 940M (CS:GO, Minecraft, GMOD)

What do you guys think is better? And if you have an opinion can you please state why

Get the i5. Its a true quad core while the i7 is a mobile, cheapened down version.
The 960m obviously performs better than the 940m.

For $100, that Dell is a better for school and gaming.

The performance between the two cpus are pretty minimal

However the 960m > 940m

tbh both cards run great on either games and it all comes down to personal preference

if you think mobility is very important since you're always on the move then I would go for the Lenovo

I also think the Lenovo is more sleek looking than the Dell

I think that If I can get one I am going to get the Lenovo as long as it has an dedicated GPU (No Intel Graphics.) That way I save $100 and get a lighter laptop. Thank you

What do you mean minimal? While user benchmarks aren't the best reference

The I5 performs 30% better than the I7 according to that link.

Is it really worth spending an extra $100 for 30% more performance?

30% performance for $100? Lets take that same site and compare the i5 6600k to the i7 6700k
The $100 difference there equates to a 10% performance increase. $100 for 30% is a huge difference.

The 960M performs double over the 940M, the i5 6300HQ is also roughly 40% more powerful - definitely go for the Dell

Keep in mind that this is his school and occasional gaming laptop, spending that $100 for that 30% wouldn't be worth it

Good idea. I'm almost done with college. I have a Surface Pro 3. Believe me lighter is better for College. I known several people that had gaming laptops and quickly regretted it. Because it was too much to lug around. You already have a Gaming PC so I wouldn't even worry about gaming.

I carried a 17" around and it served me well. It was heavy but great for classes where I needed a split screen.
