Windows 10 100% disk usage

This is an off an one problem with my Lenovo Y-50. Half the time, the time Im normally in class I turn the machine and am greeted by 100% disk usage. Like I said it doesnt happen all the time. I have done some research, however it sounds like most of the issues are services built in the Windows 10. Great job Microsoft! This Windows Install is only 6 months or so old. I did the upgrade (full reinstall) during Xmas break so I was ready for my Winter classes. Had to take a final today in class. My machine would not work. Lucky the professor brought extra laptops. So should I just reinstall Windows? I though about buying an SSD, but thats 200 bucks I really dont want to spend right now. Shit I even thought about Linux. I have used Ubuntu in the past with success, and I am willing to try it. My only issues is most professors require MS office. MS does not have a Linux option. So how good does Office 2016 run in Wine?

Task Manager and Resource Monitor tells you what is using the disk.

My guess, is that it defrags your HDD or runs its maintenance schedule which either you prevent before you never have your system on and idle at the time it is set to.

 

It can also be your A/V, or other security software you installed, in such case, that is not Microsoft fault.

It is. Its system compress memory that uses the most. Thats is part of the OS. Also all other research Ive done points to Prefetch, Superfetch, Windows Search causing issues as well. Every Windows install I have done there have been quarks. I do full reinstall with the media witch is downloaded from MS. Its not just me either. My mom and had issues as well as my sister. If you do a google search you will see the 100% disk usage issue is a common problem.

I usually see that stealing all my RAM after a crash. Not disk usage but it does slow down my PC as well. I go to event viewer and really see nothing that would warrant such constant grabbing of RAM and for that matter you can't just stop it but restarting fixes it and it barely happens to me anymore anyway I just take it and not complain because it's not a hassle for me at least until it starts doing it more often.

Thats the thing, Ram usage is low. My machine has 16Gigs, not that much is in use at startup. But restarting my machine fixes it some times. I might have to restart 3 or 4 times though. It only happens on my laptop too. Its kinda funny. Even when I view the task manager it shows that System Compressed Memory using the most disk, but if you look at the actual usage and does seem like a lot. I have no idea. All I know is this shit does not fly with me. Not when I have to use this for school. Never had any issues when I was windows 8.1 like this. 

 

Quick question. I have a retail copy of Windows 7 which was in use on my desktop. I upgrade to Windows 10 on my desktop. As I understand it gives you an entitlement key for Windows 10. Does this mean my Windows 7 disk and technically still in use? If not I might just downgrade to Windows 7. Which in my opinion works a shit ton better than Windows 10. Or Ill upgrade to the latest version of Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Just gotta see how office works on Wine.

well if the key is not on anything since you're on WIN10 that's a completely different key so you can put that win7 somewhere else like the laptop so yeah you can downgrade if you really want to I haven't found anything that fixes the system compressed memory problem so if it's that bad for you maybe just downgrade.

Also whenever you want to go back to 10 the hardware in the laptop has the key to the win10 so it will be unlocked AT LEAST that's what I heard don't quote me I haven't slept in a while might want to look up on that before they stop the free upgrades.
