To counter the coil whine? A sound card wouldn't help with that. If the motherboard you have is fairly recent, the onboard is just as good as a soundcard, especially a cheap one.

board is a asus m5a97 evo r 2.0, my sister said that she hears a lot of buzz and weird noises. I will take a sweex soundcard that i have in here in the office and try it out.

yes it would

a common source of noise on on-board audio is from the video card as the I/O traces pass just bellow it

a sound card would definitely be useful

Coil whine is audible without any speakers or headphones.

If we're talking about interference and noise, then yeah, a soundcard may help with that, but internal solutions are still easily susceptible to noise and inference. AFAIK, that shouldn't be affected by coilwhine, though. If there's coil whine, it will still be there and audible, regardless of the audio solution.

she can hear the noise in the headsets, we dont have any speaker to try it out.

coils (and not only) produce interference, with them whining or not

ad-in sound cards have components facing the other side from the video card - thus having a lot of substrates to shield the components

Then it's not coil whine (most likely).

It's most likely just interference. It's pretty common. Are you using the rear audio jacks or the front? Use the rear if you're not already. A soundcard may help, but it is not certain to, as it can still be effected by other components inside the case. A USB headset/headphones should fix the issue and can be fairly cheap.

We basically went over all of this in the other topic. He needs a cheap sound card or a solution that will help him overcome interference on the onboard audio solution. He have already tried back and front jacks.

As @Clonzoo posted my original thread, I've tried both ways and rearrange the cable in the motherboard and nothing works. The last system that she had, it had the same PSU (corsair vs 550 and the r9 380) and never had a single problem.

What sort of money are you looking to spend? I'm not too knowledgeable on individual soundcards, but from what I know Creative tends to be a reliable brand. If it's just to avoid interference, you'll likely be okay going for one of their base models without any gimmicky features.

You could also go for something like this http://www.uk.insight.com/en-gb/productinfo/media-converters-repeaters-and-transceivers/0002488228-00000001?utm_source=Google+Shopping&utm_medium=Feed&utm_campaign=Feed&src=000093&&cm_mmc=Google+Shopping-_-Feed-_-Feed-_-Feed&gclid=CjwKEAjw9OG4BRDJzY3jrMng4iQSJABddor1xPmSkcdUIo4j7cv6NEPgfwUhR893Zg79B18dFsbvpxoCsRXw_wcB

well there isn't a guarantee a sound card will work, but it might... they're right though a USB headset or adapter should work

CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 3960X | Motherboard: Intel DX79SR "Stormville" | RAM: 32GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 PC3-12800 (4x 8GB) Quad-Channel | GPU: 2x EVGA GTX 970 FTW 4GB in SLI (I have Many other builds plus 100+ Macs (don't judge me)... Many specs are listed on my profile)

If you're having issues with interference why not DAC?
Don't quote me though, I was just asking about Sound Cards the other day.

if the source of the interference is not the video card but the PSU or some other component that introduces noise in the power lines, his only solution would be a TOS Link to completely electrically separate the source and the DAC

so a usb soundcard is only the solution?

1st test with a sound card and see if that works

there are sound cards that offer TOS Link output

a simple USB sound card is not the solution if the source of the interference is the power delivery

TOS Link is a optical connection

opto coupling is the most used solution for interference barriers

i grabbed one sweex usb sound card from the office, so i will teste it when i get home. If that cancels the noise, it should be fine to buy a usb one? its only the motherboard that is affected ?

in the latest system that she had, she didnt have this issue at all (e7500, 4g, asus p5kpl am epu?, same gpu and power supply)

it could be that the sound chip is just trash

there are other factors to consider too, but that's out of your control

got home and none of headsets plugged into this sweex soudcard suffers from the issue. So i need to put here a soundcard, pcie or usb? This one is from office and its usb.

my guess is that the USB ones would be cheaper

check on-line, Amazon or whatever your poison is; as Creative and other sound card can get pretty expensive, even the basic models
