Hey there!

My sister has a computer with the following specs:

FX-6300

8g ram

r9 380

vs 550 corsair power supply

asus m5a97 ev0 r2.0

The thing is, in her headset she can hear a noise really annoying, is that coil whine?

I've tested the psu in my system and the gpu and didnt hear anything, what could it be, is there a fix?

Many thanks

Did you try different headset on that setup to rule out the fact that the headset is faulty?

well in my house we only have that and a steelseries 5h v2 :S

does the pc have hdaudio ports on the front. you can try a different port for audio and see if that does the whiny noise also. Other than that i wouldn't know what to do except putting that magnet like ring on the cable.

Same result as the back ports...

I'd be impressed if her headset coil whined.

Its probably nothing but electrical interference. You see, on the motherboard there are already so much electricity going through to other components and electricity can be heard, you know the buzzing nose from power lines, or perhaps the bang when you touch your m8's nose after rubbing you feet across the carpet. It always makes a sound (Not always as loud though), and on the motherboard where there are electricity passing though left and right, or perhaps there are tiny vibrations on the motherboard because of a fan? That is all interference that can be picked up by your onboard audio because it is on the same motherboard. Its quite normal (After a google search is seems you MB is no exeption), not dangerous but can be annoying. How to fix this, get a sound card, you can get cheap usb sound card for instance. Or buy a new mb of better quality, some motherboard have even separated the parts that handle audio from the rest to minimize all kinds of interference.

Atleast this is what I think it is, it might just be her headset on its last leg. I would try a different headset or earplugs and mess around with the volume and tell us if the sound get louder or stays the same, plug the headset in a phone and listen if there's any sound. Also, does the sounds change when you bend the cable in certain places?

I once explained to my girlfriend what true love is. I said, "If you were a shit, I'd put you back in" and to this day, she is still my little shit.

Tried with her iphone's in ear and another OEM in ear phones, ssame result in both ports.

you are spot on. on the higher end motherboards you see a clear separate circuitry of electronics for the audio. this minimizes the interference. The best option is to buy a sound card and plug it in a pci-e slot.

Its your motherboard, doubt its a driver issues, its probably some kind of interference, getting a cheap usb soundcard or a high end one would most likely fix the issue. Btw, is there a mic plugged in? Also, try to set all sound setting back to default and see if it changes, might be that windows turned on some kind of boost, mess around a little with the audio settings, but still I'm fairly sure its some kind of interference.

@bigneo I would check the front audio cable is properly connected to the MB, because if there was electrical interference on the MB itself (It can be that there's interference elsewhere) you'd hear is from the back aswell. It could be a poor cable, connector to MB or bad jack.

On my way to work right now. I will try to put again that cable. It affects both ways if it is bad placed?

That was meant for Bigneo, but have you tried both in the back and front of the PC? If you haven't try that, and also try what I told Bigneo. :)

Not a dead motherboard, just more accessible to interference from different sources. Its kind of the same with processors, some overclock better than others, eventhough the process of making them is exactly the same. Same with motherboard, even if you buy a very high end MB some people get unlucky with interference or other stuff that isn't working optimally. It still works and its not dangerous, its just as you said, annoying as balls. Get yourself a soundcard, doesn't have to be a high end one, for you and your use I'd say the cheaper the better, but don't go getting the cheapest for piece of crap there is either. I don't have too much experience with soundcard and what to get and what not to get but I'm sure if you ask in the audio section they will give you a few good recommendations.

It should take care of the buzzing noise, so try it out. Sounds quality might not be the best, but I honestly don't think its anything you or your sister will notice, or me for that matter, as I said I'm no audio guru or something. So try it out and see how it goes.
