I just got home, logged onto my computer which I installed Ubuntu on last night, and when I tried to login it froze for a while. I had to replug in my keyboard but after about 30 seconds it was fine. Then when I got into my desktop there was no sidebar, overbar, or anything not on my desktop. Please help!!!

Tried restarting and same thing happened.

specs are:

  • i7-5820K
  • 32 GBs of DDR4 memory at 2133
  • MSI Godlike Gaming X99A

Sounds like just a glitch

You can try to upgrade and update to repair any broken programs or drivers etc

sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo apt-get update

sudo shutdown -r now

if that doesn't work, try a reinstall maybe a new iso

If that all fails it may be a driver issue to look into or a gui issue which can be replaced

I would do that but I can't even get into command line.

By default SSH should be available, you can use your phone or PuTTY on windows

No right click. I don't think SSH would help. When I do right click it only lets me make another folder, change my background, etc.

ssh is just a remote terminal, so you can then run the update and restart commands, and if needed other fixes

It really seems to just be a glitch in the UI, I've had it happen on mint but restarting fixed it. So the only real options are SSH, a new install, or try to get to the settings/terminal from your file system(home)
