After 10 minutes on my PC chrome stops responding, I close it and try to restart chrome but when I click on it nothing happens. So I try to use edge but that dosn't work either.

Now the start menu and file explorer do the same thing. However I can still right click on everything but file explorer and open control panel etc.

I have ran malware-bytes and Sophos protection. Both returned no malware or quarantined items. I restarted my PC but it just happened again after 10 minutes.

All that has changed since my PC was okay:

I downloaded virtual box,

Half downloaded Ubuntu Linux,

and downloaded Malware-bytes after the restart.

I have no idea what has happened, I know the internet is fine because I am writing this post on my laptop and can open Spotify and play music through the desktop on my PC.

Someone please help, I need my computer working ASAP.

Chrome is being very funky lately.

Try mozilla for now.

Try shutting down your machine for a few minutes.

Power it back on.

Windows OS seems to be written by monkeys smashing their head on a keyboard.

I downloaded firefox setup onto a usb and installed it onto my PC,

It seems that when I close a browser or after a certain amount of time I am unable to relaunch it, firefox said because it was already open, however, I cannot end the task in task manager...

Can you do a test for me:

If you open say 5-10 programs (DO NOT CLOSE THEM), keep them open, and repeat the issue.

When it happens, and you can no longer open a program, if you close 1-2 of the opened program, can you now open a new program? If not, close additional programs of the 5-10 you open earlier, does it open finally?

Ok, so after restarting, I opened Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Spotify, Word and Excel. Chrome was the first to open, I went to speedtest on each browser, only chrome loaded it and finished the test, edge and Firefox didn't load the website properly. Edge stopped responding as well as chrome.

I closed them both, Firefox now won't load anything at all it just stays at the url of speedtest. So I closed that too. All other applications work, but I cannot open Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Firefox said that it was already running, in task manager I tried to close it because the close button from the Firefox button didn't close the program. I cannot close the program in task manager, I clicked the end task button many a time.....

The start button now doesn't do anything nor the search section of the toolbar, but I can right click to get to task manager and control panel etc.

Ive closed word, excel and Spotify and I still cannot launch or close Firefox, Chrome or Edge or access the start menu.

Hmm.. difficult to know for sure.

Try uninstalling your SATA Controller drivers /  motherboard chipset drivers, and restart your computer, does that help?

I'm not entirely sure where to find them?

Look first in Programs & Features (the place where you uninstall programs), if it's not there, then go to Device Manager, go to your SATA Controller, right-click, and select Uninstall.

Thanks

:)
