CPU Running Slightly Warmer Than Normal?

I have a Lenovo G560, Intel-based Windows 7 laptop with a Core i3 running at 2.0 GHz (max.), 8 GB DDR3 @ 1066 MHz; and the CPU temps usually hover around mid to upper 40s Celsius, with ambient (room) temp around 23.9 to 26.7. About a week or so ago (It usually takes much longer than that for the duct to become partially clogged with dust), I noticed they were up around mid to upper 70s, so, I removed bottom cover and proceeded to clean the ventilation duct that the CPU fan is mounted against, temps returned to mid 40s. Wtf could be happening? I wouldn't think dust could be built up again this quick... Any and all assistance IS GREATLY appreciated.

Update: Well, I found out the reason for the ↑↑↑ above temps: the thermal paste on my CPU was starting to get a little "crusty", so, I removed the old stuff from CPU & Heatsink, applied new, and

Voila! Temps back to where I like:

I'm no linus but what i can tell you is that upper 70s are just fine

probably because with the covers on, the fan have to get the air through the rams and hard drives first before accessing the heatsink, so more restriction and less air flow

but it cools the hdd and ram too

while with the cover on, the fan will just have to grab the air directly without going through much restrictions and straight to the heatsink, more air flow and cooler air, while the ram and hard disk runs hotter

could be true, could be false, but thats how my laptop's cooling works, i believe most laptop follow the same pattern as well
