Yes, they do work, and they have massive performance benefits, like using very high performance 771 cpus on traditional 775 boards. just make sure the pins you short are the right ones or you could risk part damage.

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

Thanks alot, I have a xeon for this and a 775 board, I was just worried about falling to some sort of prank thing or misleading product and damage my stuff.

yeah, just make sure you short the right pins. you don't want to accidentally destroy your powerful cpu because you accidentally shorted the wrong pins. also i would use a small piece of double sided tape so that doesn't fall off per se.
