Hey guys, so my Corsair H110 is on it's last legs, and I'm in the process of trying to find a new CPU cooler for my i7-3770k (LGA 1155). I'm also trying to make the switch back from liquid to air cooling as my H110 didn't last quite as long as I'd like it to, and I've heard that air coolers tend to be more reliable. My case is a Corsair Air 540, so even some more robust coolers should fit, but I'm looking for a piece that will compliment the black and green theme of my rig. The only additional constraints I have is that it be quiet (I've gotten used to the near silence of liquid cooling =) ), and that it can fit on an ASROCK Z77 Extreme4 with two sticks of Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM installed (the heat sinks are quite tall). Any suggestions?

I'm using the Arctic Freezer 13. Inexpensive, very quiet (at least in my opinion) and also pretty easy to install

(for black/green theme probably the Limited Edition would fit)

Obviously, the CoolerMaster Hyper212 Evo, but it won't be anything near the green/black color you're looking for. Apart from this, it's really cheap, silent and can cool my FX-6300 OC'd with a quite high voltage

There are a lot of shades of green fans on the market so it makes it difficult to match. This is also aided by the fact that the human eye can (usually) see more shades of green than any other color.

The good news is that most CPU coolers allow you to swap out your fan with something of your own choosing. I recently bought a Deepcool GAMAAXX 300 for my system and was surprised at how well it worked. They make some pretty beefy ones and all of them support fan swapping.

Be Quiet is a highly regarded brand that also supports fan swapping though most of their fans are usually black.

I'd recommend a phanteks tc14pe because you can mount your own fans to it, but you said you use dominator ram, which is extremely tall. Big air doesnt like big ram :D

The type of green I'm trying to match is a bit closer to Razer green. Tentatively, I'm going with the be quiet! Dark Rock 3 because of it's looks and quiet profile, but according to another post on this forum (I'll link it below), it may not have the clearance I'm looking for. Could anyone who owns Dominator Platinum RAM share what kind of cooler they are using?

The Pure rock shouldn't give you any issues with RAM clearance as long as you are only using two sticks. It may be a little close if you are using four but I think you can mount the fan to the other side of the heatsink in a pull configuration.

Just to double check, the Dominator Platinum RAM claims it has a height of 60mm, and the Dark Rock 3 claims it only provides for 39mm. Does the Pure Rock make up for the extra space? And what are the differences between the two in addition to the Shadow Rock Slim, other than the price and color?
