Lag in games

Hey everyone! I have recently built a new computer and have been playing it a bit here and there. So on friday I played games on it with no lag at all (I was playing The Forest), I come back to play at the same spot same game and now it has some random lag spikes, I dont know what the problem could be maybe a failed startup or something weird... anyway I am concerned and want to know how to fix, thanks!

 

btw my gpu is the gtx 970 if that helps at all
