High Quality CPU

Go to solution Solved by Allshevski,

I'm sorry I have to disappoint you but your CPU is not that High Quality as you may think.. It could be even refurbished from somewhere else. H stands for High performance graphics and Q means it's Quad core. Sorry...

Edit: Also, it's Haswell architecture AFAIK so maybe the H stands for that according to some intel's infographic...

So I have an Intel Core-i7 4750HQ with 6MB L3 cache and 4 physical cores (+4 logical) running at 2.00GHz (oc at 3.2GHz max) and I was wondering what does "High Quality" exactly mean, since according to the Intel webpage, that's what HQ stands for.

Does it mean it has a longer lifespan? More cache? More instructions per cycle? What makes it different to other i7 4th generation processors?

As always, thanks in advance :P

Oops, looks like my memory failed me again. Just checked the intel's webpage and you're right.

So I guess it's just a normal i7 4750 with better onboard graphics, isn't it?

Thanks anyway :P

Edit: it's built in a laptop, not a desktop pc, and although I've read it's a high-end laptop processor, I now guess it isn't anymore, am I right?

"HQ" does not stand for 'High Quality.'

Where are you seeing "since according to the Intel webpage, that's what HQ stands for." ??

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/processor-numbers.html

H -- High performance graphics (iGPU)

K -- Unlocked multiplier (overclocking)

Q -- Quad Core CPU

U -- Ultra low power chip

So, the i7-4750HQ is a:

http://ark.intel.com/products/76087/Intel-Core-i7-4750HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_20-GHz

  • Quad-core CPU  ** Intel has i5 and i7's that are only dual-core **
  • Higher performing iGPU; the Intel Iris Pro 6200

Look at the i7-4650U

http://ark.intel.com/products/75114/Intel-Core-i7-4650U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_30-GHz

  • Does NOT have the "Q", so that is why it is a i7 DUAL-CORE
  • Does not have the "H" lettering, so it uses the weaker Intel HD 5000 graphics
  • "U" naming scheme, so it is a low power draw chip, coming in at 15W (versus 47W on the i7-4750HQ)
