Hey all,

I want to upgrade my graphics card ( R9 270X) , but I just had a couple questions.

My budget is 400 Dollars, and I found I could get a R9 390X ( $389.99 U.S) or a GTX 970 ( $379.99 U.S) prices from newegg

I was wondering where the 390X was compared to the green team ( I heard linus say that is basically a 290 with more ram )

when i looked at the unigine benchmark doc, i saw the 290 scoring higher than the 390, which makes me not want to get the 390

pls and thnx

The 390x is a fairly powerful card- the 390 and 390x have noticeable performance differences- it pulls the same FPS as a 980 in GTAV at 1440p, and it is generally cheaper. It is more powerful than the 290/390 cards, and is generally around the same performance as the 290x, with more RAM, so it should perform better at higher resolutions.  However, I would recommend holding out until next generation in a few months if you can- the new cards should be really powerful, and even then, you will be able to get last gen cards cheaper.

if you want a 390 get the normal 390 not the 390x, the 390x is like $70 more and all it has is a higher base clock

Ah, no.

The 390x has ~300 more stream processors.

Get a 390x, OP, its a great card. Much better than the 970, if it's in your budget.

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

not worth for price for performance, unless you're like me and can buy whatever, then go for it.
