Free CAD software that actually functions

I'm trying to make case design. Anybody know of free CAD software that actually works? It doesn't need dynamic feature where it can show moving parts and what not. I just want to throw something together to get a rough idea of the minimum dimensions this prototype case could be.

Autodesk Inventor....

it has dynamic assemblies too. 

 

you need to make a an account and say you're a student.

The CAD program I'm using works (it's just not intuative. It's call freeCAD from freecadweb.org It works on Vista too thankfully. It's having a hard time properly extruding (padding they call it) a sketch with 12 holes in it.

Ehm... pretty sure there is a free version of google's sketchup. Don't do to much CADing so yea.
