Both inkjet and lasejet date back to the late eighties I believe. The most recent tech is LED but it never took off and cannot compete in quality with either one of the others. Again, choosing between ink and laser comes down to what you want to print. If it's high detail photos, it's injet. If it's just text it's laserjet. If it's something in between, both have options.
