I'm planning to build a pc for the first time and I now have a semi complete list of parts for my build here but I still have some questions. I will still take recommendations or completely different builds into consideration I just have some requirements for any recommendations:

-Everything must be from Amazon or NCIX US

-3.0+ GHz CPU

-6000+ Passmark CPU Mark Benchmark

-4+ Cores (Actual not logical) CPU

-Storage must be SSD or SSHD

-I dont care about frames on the games as long as they are still playable but I want render times to go down as much as possible on SV.

-$1000 budget but I'd like to keep price as low as possible

-8+ GB RAM

Questions I have thus far:

1. Do I really need thermal compound?

2. Is there anyway I can make this build any quieter?

3. As for GPU I have really no idea here pc will mostly be used for : Sony Vegas 1080p 60 frames rendering, light gaming(G-mod, TF2, MInecraft, etc.) and  Smith Micro Anime Studio Pro 11. So I'm kind of in the dark here so please help here especially.

1) yes you need thermal compound BUT you usually don't need to buy it (it comes with the CPU if it has a cooler or often with the cooler)

2) silence is usually achieved with the case (a very popular one is the fractal define series), some components play a role too : cooler, case fans and gpu model.

3) i know video editing can benefit from gpu horsepower but i don't know if it's the case of sony vegas, otherwise a simple gpu would be sufficient (like the amd 270, 280 or 280X)

1. You don't need thermal compound unless you are overclocking, but it does make it run cooler therefore quieter

2.  Intel basically runs cooler so quieter, you can also get sound dampening foam or a different case

3. that GPU is fine for what ever you are doing

1. How much is actually required ?

2. What would be the difference between the fractal and the be quite case?

What would be the benefit of dropping the .2 GH for double the cores?

its a CPU that is generally better for video editing.

sorry i'm late.

what do you mean how much is required? thermal compound? a tube is enough for a long time and many builds (it'll probably just go bad or get lost before you finish it). But as I said, it should be included with you CPU and/or cooler.

the difference is that they're 2 different cases. so price, aesthetics, the inside etc... if you mean about the noise I don't know but they're both pretty quiet as far as I know so you probably can't go wrong with any of the 2.
