Hello i am building an x99 based pc. I will have 2 or 3 video cards (980ti). I have never used a multiple gpu pc before, and really juat want to do this because i can :) i will have a pair of 4k monitors as well, also having never really used multiple screens.

But i have a questions about operating them lol. I think with the bridge they all work together to produce one video output?

What about with out a bridge?

Can I use one card to display a video game, while another card displays a movie stream or a pc program? Can 2 games be played at the same time, using 2 diffent cards..

Help me wrap my mind around this please?

Thanks

Then why would anyone ever choose multiple cards...idc if i can do it with 1. I want to do it with 3 ;)

Sure you can, SLI means both cards work together on each task, but just having two means each will work on what's happening on its own monitor. They will also work together on compute tasks in certain programs. You won't need more than a 980ti for what you're doing.

Awesome, what can i do with my pc then to actually use that much gpu hardware. If rendering 3d and editing 4k raw is not going to be that demanding. Maybe i have time for another hobby. Lol

You need to focus on the CPU for that. A single 980ti is great, but after that you won't see much improvement.

I'd say at least a 6700k.

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001
