P410 RAID setup

Hi all,

 

I was thinking of adding a raid setup to my system, someone helpfully pointed out a while ago that you can buy an old HP p410 on ebay for about £35, does this seem sketchy or should I entrust it with my data?

I also saw it uses 2 SAS connectors (I think, I don't know much about SAS), and is apparently able to connect up to 24 drives with an expander card, however would I be able to use these adaptors for up to 8 connections? and would they be 8x3GB/s or 8x6GB/s, I read somewhere that it only supports up to 3GB/s over SATA, but that it has 8 SAS ports on 2x4-wide connectors, I'm kinda confused about what's going on with this card. I haven't bought anything yet, but I'm looking to use 2TB SATA drives for RAID 5.

 

I basically want to know it I'll get 8 working 6GB/s SATA connectors using this setup and if the card seems ok.
