I'm not entirely sure where the option is nowadays, but if you go into your nVidia settings panel there are two things you can try.

Option one is to uncheck 'only show supported resolutions'. Your graphics card might not be totally convinced about the resolution of your screen, and this may resolve it.

Option two is to manually add a resolution to the list. This feature should be on the same page somewhere.

Honestly it is unlikely but its worth a try. Also make sure you have the monitor connected at the same output. It is worth a try reseating it however, as it may not be detecting the gpu the way it should be.

I will try reseating this and @DHelios thanks for the help but didnt work :I

Thats a very good point. However, If you have to manually add the resolution, there is a good chance that the display won't show a forced output (my display only shows an output if it is selected from the default list).

Its automatic, just press this button!

If forcing the proper resolution didn't work, I wonder if there's some sort of setting on your monitor that got messed up? What cable are you using to connect it? Is it VGA by any chance?

Also a good point, but i dont believe that the 660 has VGA out. If there was an adapter, that could also pose an issue.

Okay. VGA is notorious for failing to get a proper resolution sometimes without a reason.

There's probably an "auto set" sort of function/button on your screen. Give it a try. Also, make sure cables are connected firmly, and try restarting couple times. It will probably fix itself.

Monitor has VGA and DVI-D ports and i am not at liberty to swap over to DVI-D cable due to being away from home

1 minute ago, mrgooglegeek said:

Ok does your monitor have any other inputs that you could try? Also, if your GPU has multiple DVI_D outputs, try swapping the adapter to the other one.

Since your monitor has DVI, what's the point of using a VGA adaptor? You are adding points of failure and are forcing it use an older protocol. Just remove the adapter and connect directly to DVI.

Edit: For now just try restarting, most of the times I've seen VGA failing it got fixed with several restarts. Or try re-plugging it on the fly.

Well you could see if the person you are staying with happens to use dvi cables or has one laying around and borrow it for a diagnostic test. ATM, thats about all i can think of. If the dvi cable solves the problem, then find a hardware store or walmart or something. A new cable is only a couple of dollars.

Its automatic, just press this button!

Microsoft won't help you dude, like seriously. The people answering the phones most of the time don't have the knowledge and will give you scripted answers. Have you tried re-plugging & restarting yet?
