You should build a dedicated NAS rather than trying to virtualize your server. Even just an AM1 based machine would be fine and cheap for media stuff, unless you want a few 1080p video streams.

Otherwise go for an HGST 4TB drive

And get this display over that one, this one is an IPS display with free-sync and will be way better for only $50 more

See I did wonder that about the display, I did end up taking your advice and getting a free-sync monitor, that acer is better as far as backlight bleed goes? Is the HGST 4TB drive just as good as the Red drive? Also I do plan to stream 1080p movies to my Ps4's could I go with something like this? Basically my converting will be done on my main computer, this "server will just store and stream to plex". Would you suggest Freenas for this, probably not and seeing as tho Windows Server is hard to get....

Reds are good if the HGST ones aren't available, but they're probably the best overall.

No reason to spend that much on a case for a server man. the i3 would be a bit better, but for the same price you could go AM3+ if you aren't going to use ECC and have all the power you need forever, maybe get a gold rated or higher PSU for better efficiency.

The white NZXT Source 210 cost 10 dollars more than the black one right now. If cost is important, go with the black one.

@Streetguru

I don't leave mail in rebates turned on as they aren't usually very reliable

Sorry I forgot about the ecc memory I'm just trying to grasp what a good plex server that transcodes 1080p movies on the fly really needs to function.

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.

A media server really isn't going to need ECC, that's more for a dedicated back up NAS that you're sending constant file back ups to
