If you were thinking of SLi, from what I know, with nVidia cards, you need the same GPU. GTX 780 + GTX 780, or GTX 770 + GTX 770. As long as they are the same chip, it will work; you can have different VRAM and clock speeds.

 

Example:

 

EVGA GTX 770 w/ ACX cooling, 2GB, 1111MHz core, 7010MHz memory

MSi Gaming GTX 770, 4GB, 1137MHz core, 7010MHz memory

 

The above WILL work, but since the EVGA only has 2GB of VRAM, the MSi card can only use 2GB (out of the 4GB it has). Plus, both will be clocked at the slower speed (1111MHz / 7010MHz).
