Hello guys, this is a question that was lingering in my mind for the past 2 weeks. Does the PCI-E metal shielding actually help or its a bling factor/ take your money type of feature (like the killer internet thing)? I mean graphics cards are getting smaller and smaller with the rise of new technology like HBM2. So, should I worry for graphics cards bending the mobo in the future?

It's more to prevent the slot from bending as you mentioned and more importantly an extra security to prevent the entire plastic connector from being pull off the pins in the motherboard which does happen when one forgets to unlock the holding clip.

Does it happen a lot? Is it worth the extra 20-30$, dear sir?

Well it's not super common but does happen at times, as for the extra costs depending on the board it could also be that that money is going into other components on the board and not just solely those connectors.

Thanks for the info! I'll keep that in mind. How long does a mobo usually last before showing problems like pulling a PCI-E slot off?

the gauge of the material used to "support the socket/slot" has no weight bearing to keep the socket/slot from warping, bending, or deforming. it is merely more marketing to bling up a motherboard. to keep from ripping out a PCIe slot is to mind the slot lock and use the chassis support screws (2x). they do not "naturally" pull out, it takes some force to dislodge them from the PCB.

Thanks a lot for the info and clearing out my mind! :)

As mentioned with normal use it wouldn't have any potential to come off over just regular use.
