Hey guys, quick queston: the HP elite x2 has an USB type c with thunderbolt support. Does that mean it can run with external GPU?
thank you.

No because HP will need to relase software support for that maybe it will some day.

And the CPU is not very good so you could maybe put a 260x-270x or something like that max since the cpu will bottle neck. This is only if they release software support I think there is 5% chance of that happening since the CPU is just plain shit for everything else than web and word.

According to CPUboss, It's performance is not really that bad. It might bottleneck a 980Ti, but hopefully nothing less

It has over 1000 point less than a 5 year old i7...... on cpubenchmark.com
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+m3-6Y30+%40+0.90GHz&id=2631

And just because that in their test it scores "okay" does not mean that you can game with that kind of cpu and even run a gpu of it. You are not going to game with it or make 3D models. I have seen that 2in1 in real life with the best core m it could have and it was still bad compared to a normal 2in1 with a normal dual core. Oh yeah did I mention that it throttles down because the cooling is bad, I think that I could have it running at max for about 20-30 min before it just throttled down. This 2 in 1 is made for office people or people who need something really light on  the go, not people that need power.

Suggest a 2in1 that has power, preferably with thunderbolt.

How much are you willing to spend? and what do you need thunderbolt for? There is such a little change for any 2in1 to get support for eGPU since if you want to pare a 980 ti with it you will need a cpu that is better than a FX 8350, and that little box for the gpu is going to cost about 300-500$ without the gpu in it.

Primarly I'm going to use it as a "notepad", so battery life is important to me. I don't think I'm ever going to plug in a 980Ti, at best a normal 980. Thats more than enough for 1440p@60, for the generations of games to come, especially that I rarely play demanding games. Not that I have many time to play.
I don't know how much I'm willing to spend, it depends on many things. Suggest anything that you think is capable of the above mentioned, I'll check the prices.
TY again

I know that the GS30 2M SHADOW has support for eGPU, but that is not a 2in1 and I dont think that there is any 2in1 with 100% sure support or infact I dont think that there is any 2in1 with thunderbolt and a good cpu. I think you will have to wait a year or two for that to come, because the most powerfull 2in1 are the spectre 360x, surface pro 4, surface Book, Thinkpad P40, but I dont think any of them has thunderbolt.

Surface book actually has eGPU, but it's still integrated, and Microsoft won't open it up for a GPU dock. Surface Pro 4 don't even have a type C. Well, I guess I'll wait an other year or a half to change my worthy Surface Pro 1. Thank you for your help. If you have anything else in mind, contact me please.

If you take the price of the eGPU case about 500$ and then add the GPU cost about 400$ then you will pay about 900$ for having a desktop gpu that works with your laptop, so you could buy a desktop and then buy a 2 in 1 that can get you through school or what you need the laptop for.

I think a year from now, the USB Thunderbolt to PCIe will be a 10$ cable at best buy, I'm not gonna worry about it. If I'm not right, than the chinease will do it, as they are doing it now.

Yeah then the cost will come down to a little case + a psu + GPU+ that 10$ cable= 550$ maybe?

I don't need little case, I can allways make something good-looking from scrap. A 180-250W psu is no mor than 30$. So GPU+10%. Let's discuss it a year later ;)
