download managers provide speed in MB/s while ISP provide bandwidth in Mbps.
the Difference between MBps and Mbps is MBps = 8*Mbps
if you notice that B=bytes , b=bits

maybe you should check that 1st and if you are sure that you are not receiving 5Mbps or around 600ish Kbps then contact your isp

Hi my internet speed is 5mb/s but if download somthing it will only work at 500kb/s. Is this normal or is there something i can do.

its a common mistake in non-techies

but when you sign up for your plan, the ISP is probably listing the speed in term of BITS per second

the download software often shows the speed in BYTES per second

1 Byte (commonly shown as B) = 8 Bits (commonly shown as b)

so 5Mbps = 625kBps, so getting around 500-ish is normal

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately
