I have the choice of have two different 280X cards. The dual x card from Sapphire which is like the two fan Vapor one and the gigabyte windforce one. But I don't think the gigabyte one can fit in my PC case so I must consider the sapphire Vapor one which is the 2 fan one that I hear people say is the worst 280X card there is so is it really that bad? do I need to buy a new case and get the gigabyte one or could I get away with the sapphire one with a smaller case? I'm worried that there is a gap in cooling, noise, and performance with the dual vapor x sapphire card which again I hear people say is the worst 280x there is...

If anything, the Sapphire card is the best one. Don't know why people are telling you that.

There is a different between the Dual-X and Vapor-X cooler by Sapphire -- even if they are two fans.

The Vapor-X has contained liquids inside the metal contact base, while the Dual-X is without.

Nonetheless, both performs great.

Source?

I used to own both a Dual-X HD 7970, and a Vapor-X HD 7970 up until about a month ago. Both the coolers used two fans.

HD 7970 "GHz Edition" = Tahiti XT2 CPU core = R9-280X.

The 7970 and 280X are the same card.

Top card is the Vapor-X, and the bottom is the Dual-X

The Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X is relatively noisy according to reviews. The Dual-X is cheaper and doesn't have a vapor chamber, so presumably it would be even worse. There aren't really any major reviews of the Dual-X though.

Sapphire's Hawaii-based cards are AWESOME, but that doesn't mean everything they ever made is great.

Correction* it is not a dual x is a vapor x double fan, so this or the gigabyte one with a new case?

In that situation, go with the Sapphire Vapor-X.

During idle or low loads, one (or both) fan won't even spin up.

Plus, Sapphire has their own graphics card tuning software where you can

  • Adjust clock speeds (i.e. overclock)
  • Adjust voltage
  • Create custom fan curves / profiles
  • Monitor GPU with graphs
  • etc

My Vapor-X HD 7970 (this applied to the Dual-X as well as the Vapor-X HD 7950 that I still have) had one of the fans off until I run a heavy game, like BF4.

The Sapphire R9-Fury I just got turns off ALL three fans.

WoW is more dependent on your CPU than your GPU so technically a 280x is overkill. Yes, you're more than fine with a 280x.

As already mentioned, the R9-280X it will exceed your expectations for mere WoW.

A single R9-280X is capable of running most of the latest games on High to Ultra settings with effects and/or Anti-Aliasing turned off or reduced.

This is at 1080p or 1440p resolution.
