Build Now or wait?

Jonesy8

I'm currently working on a new build solely for gaming, no streaming or other work:

CPU: I5-6600k

MoBo: Asus z170a

psu: EVGA supernova 650 watt 80+ gold

RAM: 16gb kingston hyperx

Storage: i already have a 500 gb 850 evo and will add a 2tb seagate barracuda

GPU: gtx 680 2gb, i plan on waiting for a 1070

so what i need help with is whether it's worth it to build this pc now and use the 680 until the 10xx series comes out or just wait altogether and continue using my current pc

I think you can build now if your current gaming rig is not satisfied anymore, And sell that 680 later when you get a 1070. What's your current rig anyway?

My rig: Intel Core i7 4790k | MSI Z97 PC Mate | GSKILL Ripjaws X 16GB 1866MHz | ADATA Premier SP550 480GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB  | MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 | Thermaltake Versa N21 | Corsair CX550M Semi Modular PSU | AOC G2460PF 144Hz | Logitech G502 | GSKILL Ripjaws KM780  | GAMDIAS HEPHAESTUS V2  PCPartPicker | Old Build Log | New Build Log

Should wait to see if pascal will gain anything from DX12, you'd also save money on an adaptive sync display going with AMD

but what's your budget/country? If you aren't gaming at 144hz it's not really going to be worth it over going for an i5 6500 and more budget board.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

If that's ur current Rig I suggest starting from upgrading CPU/Mobo first. If you want to keep the Ram then something like i5 4460 or 4760k with a h97/z97 mobo of some sort, if not then skylake with DDR4. Then you can upgrade GPU later so wait for 1070 or smt. It seem to worth the upgrade since APU is kinda really old now

i have the money for an upgrade, but i guess im mostly just wondering if a gtx 680 would bottleneck everything else while i wait for 10xx series

Not really no. CPU often bottleneck the GPU because when you run games the GPU can handle it but CPU cant, so it's bottlenecked. But when the reverse happen it just mean the GPU dont have enough power, it wont bottleneck any CPU function.
